Concrete Slab Leveling in Baton Rouge, LA

Sunken driveways, patios, walkways and garage floors are common in Baton Rouge for the same reason foundations move: soft, shifting clay soil. Concrete leveling lifts the slab back into place for a fraction of the cost of tearing it out and pouring new concrete.

How concrete leveling works

We drill small holes in the sunken slab and inject material underneath to fill the voids and lift the concrete back to level. With polyurethane foam, the holes are about the size of a nickel and the slab is usually ready for traffic within an hour. With mudjacking, a cement slurry is pumped under the slab through slightly larger holes. Both methods are far quicker and cheaper than replacement.

Common uses

  • Driveways that have sunk or tilted, creating trip edges
  • Patios that slope toward the house and send water against the foundation
  • Sidewalks and steps with uneven joints
  • Garage floors and pool decks that have settled

Leveling vs. replacement

If the slab is in good condition but has sunk, leveling is almost always the better choice. If the concrete is badly broken or crumbling, replacement may make more sense. We'll tell you honestly which option fits your slab.

Protecting your foundation

A patio or driveway that slopes toward your house can direct rainwater right at the foundation. Leveling it so water flows away is a simple way to protect your home's foundation from extra moisture.

What concrete leveling costs

Leveling typically costs a fraction of tearing out and repouring the same slab. The price depends on the size of the area, how far it has sunk and how much material it takes to fill the voids underneath. Most driveway, sidewalk and patio jobs take a few hours, and you can usually drive or walk on the concrete the same day.

Why concrete sinks here

Soft clay, poorly compacted fill and water washing soil out from under the slab all leave empty spaces beneath the concrete. Once there's a void, the slab cracks and drops into it. Filling the voids and correcting the drainage that caused them gives the best long-term result.
